Peel P50 microcar just sold for £111,000 – Automotive Blog

Peel P50 - Car & Classic

A 1963 Peel P50 – the “world’s smallest car” – has gone under the hammer for a remarkable £111,000.

Believed to be the second-highest price paid at a British auction for the model, it’s also said to have a wild past, having been used in a promotional stunt which involved going all the way up to the top of the Blackpool Tower.

One of just 46 ever made, it may even be a pre-production example sporting a lower fitment of the windscreen, early Lucas sidelights, a cream steering wheel and no rear roll bar. No other Peel has the same features.

Capable of 38mph and with a range of 100 miles per gallon, the 59kg car has no onboard instruments or odometer.

It doesn’t even have a reverse gear. Instead, it relies on being lifted and turned into the desired direction by the driver.

The unique Peel P50 was the subject of brisk bidding at the Car & Classic auction.
